Product Testing - Vertical Pockets
Here at DosRosDesigns we create various wallets with different types of pocket layouts. Within our Cameron Collection the two types of pockets are horizontal and vertical.
While the vertical pocket orientation packs a punch in terms of the amount of storage, it is considerably more difficult to keep the overall thickness of the wallet down to a manageable size. Why? Well because you are essentially layering leather, cards and cash on top of each other, and the more layers the more bulky the end product.
Some people love vertical wallets, and some don't. We wanted to play around potential vertical pocket options to see if we could come up with another design that might help keep the completed product a little slimmer. Take a look below for more details.
Horizontal Card Orientation
This is the Cameron 4 Full Stitch Wallet. When you stick cards in these pockets, and close or fold the wallet shut the contents close themselves in. This allows for a snug fit, and helps ensure that contents won't fly out if you toss your wallet in the bag or in the other seat of the car.
There are some drawbacks to this horizontal orientation. One of the drawbacks I have noticed is that you can’t put too many pockets overlapping each other without running out of real estate. Having said that, remember that this is leather, and it will expand to fit 8-10 cards in each pocket if you really take the time to stretch it out.
Vertical Card Orientation
.
These are examples of our Cameron 6 Vertical Wallet. These pockets are in the vertical orientation.
As you add additional pockets you can use t-pockets for the additional pockets, and skive down the back side of the leather. This can help control the overall thickness of the wallet, but when you only use hand tools to create wallets, skiving is time consuming and a more challenging skill to learn.
New Vertical Card Orientation
This is an example of a new vertical card pocket we are exploring. This particular format utilizes tyvek or thin, but heavy duty ribbon placed and secured in a folded pattern to create the actual pocket. So far, this pattern seems to produce an overall thinner wallet for the vertical design. Currently, we have a couple of folks product testing this new pocket design and really putting it to the test. This process helps us ensure that when we sell you a wallet the design has already been tested and will withstand the test of time.
